Converting units: Outdoor Maths lesson
We have been very busy with our Maths topics recently. With so much to get through, it would be easy to forget about using the Concrete, Pictoral, Abstract approach we have adopted throughout the school. However, with this approach so key to helping the children understand key topics, we decided to take our Maths lesson outside.
The children were given instructions to draw shapes. Each instruction was written in either km, m, cm or mm. The children had to convert the different measurements into the same unit and then use a ruler and a protractor to draw these on the floor of our playground in chalk.
This was an interesting activity to introduce the topic and get the children engaged with the work.
