Outdoor Perimeters!

Year 5 have taken advantage of the sunny Winter weather and moved their Maths learning outdoors. We are beginning to look at perimeter and using our previous learning in order to solve problems. The children had to remember the basic properties of shapes as well as being able to define regular and irregular polygons. The children quickly learnt that, in order to draw regular polygons to the correct dimensions, they had to divide the total perimeter by the number of sides. We quickly realised that it would help using a protractor so we can definitely draw a regular polygon. Year 5 loved having chalk and using it to draw the different shapes and we found it was a fun, interactive and effective way to introduce perimeter again.
