Black and Asian History Month

For Black and Asian History Month, Year 5 have been focusing on the Bristol Bus Boycott from 1963. We learnt about Guy Bailey, a man who applied for a job as a bus driver but was rejected based on the colour of his skin. We learnt about the protests that took place in order to ban the colour bar on buses, as well as highlighting the racism that existed.

We decided to recreate these protests around school and the surrounding streets. The children created their own placards and thought up their own phrases to chant. We are really pleased with the response from the children as they were all very sensible and have gained a lot from this experience.
