King Henry VIII Poems
We have been looking at writing poetry across Year 5 focusing on rhyme and rhythm. We spent time looking at rhyme and where to place words to create a rhyming couplet. Once we understood how to rhyme, we wrote poems using King Henry VIII as a topic, focusing on his life and his wives.
To ensure the children understood rhythm and flow, they had to perform the poem they had written to the rest of the class. The children understood that the purpose of poetry is to entertain and they certainly delivered on that purpose. They used expression, emotion, movement and actually performed their poems rather than simply reading them.
