Museum Visit
Welcome back to our Year 5 blog.
We have started our topic of the Egyptians and the children have really started to show an engagement and enjoyment.
To kick off the topic, we went to Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery where we took part in sessions to learn about how the Egyptians mummified their dead and the artefacts that have been found from the Egyptian era as well as looking at the items the Museum have on display.
During our first session we learnt about the mummification process.
We learnt all about how the Egyptians would remove some of the vital organs and store them in Canopic jars while they would pull the brain out through the nose.
We then went for a wander around the Museum and sketched some of the items that were on display from the museum.
During our afternoon session, we looked at some of the different artefacts that we were allowed to handle. The children became young archaeologists and had to categorise some of those objects.
We certainly did learn a lot while having fun. Looking forward to the rest of the topic now and what more we might learn.

What a great way of bringing the past to life and hopefully inspiring some children to love history and develop their interest in archaeology ...
